Lando Norris hat mit seinem dritten Saisonsieg auch ein Zeichen im WM-Duell mit seinem Formel-1-Teamkollegen von McLaren gesetzt. Zwei Wochen vor seinem Erfolg beim Großen Preis von Österreich war er Oscar Piastri noch ins Auto gefahren. Was der Doppelerfolg von Spielberg im WM-Kampf nach dem frühen Aus von Titelverteidiger Max Verstappen auf dem Red Bull Ring aus Sicht der internationalen Presse bedeutet:

Österreich

„Kurier“: „Formel 1 in Spielberg: Solo für McLaren, Debakel für Red Bull. Der Kampf um die Weltmeisterschaft wird zu einer Zwei-Mann-Show.“

„Krone“: „Norris siegt in Spielberg! Viel Frust bei Red Bull.“

„Salzburger Nachrichten“: „Formel 1 in Spielberg: Red Bull schreibt WM nach ‘schwarzem Tag’ ab – McLaren feiert souveränen Doppelsieg. (…) Unmittelbar nach dem Rennstart war die Stimmung bei den rund 30.000 niederländischen Fans allerdings im Keller. Denn ausgerechnet für Publikumsliebling Max Verstappen war das Rennen in Spielberg schon nach drei Kurven zu Ende. „Kleine Zeitung“: „In einer eigenen Dimension bewegte sich McLaren beim Großen Preis von Österreich am Sonntag in Spielberg. Gleich zu Beginn überholte Oscar Piastri Charles Leclerc und war Zweiter, an der Spitze behielt Lando Norris die Führung. Dahinter kam es zu einem folgenschweren Manöver von Kimi Antonelli, der Max Verstappen abschoss. Für den Niederländer war das Rennen in Runde eins somit vorbei.“

Zehntausende Niederländer sind wieder in die Steiermark gereist, um ihrem Idol im Red Bull zuzujubeln, Max Verstappen, dem Weltmeister der letzten vier Jahre. Doch dann dämpft der 27-Jährige mit seinem siebten Startplatz schon am Samstag die Erwartungen. Und erlischt der letzte Funke Hoffnung, als noch nicht einmal eine Runde gefahren ist.“

„AD“: „Für Max Verstappen und Red Bull Racing wurde das Heimrennen in Österreich zu einer dramatischen Ausgabe. McLaren machte ein goldenes Geschäft mit einem Doppelsieg und Lando Norris revanchierte sich für einen schlechten Auftritt in Kanada. Zwanzig Sekunden oder so, dann war Max Verstappens Sonntag vorbei. Vom siebten Startplatz aus hatte er sich wenig Illusionen gemacht, aber er hatte nicht erwartet, dass dieser Grand Prix so dramatisch werden würde.“

„De Telegraaf“: „Für Verstappen endete das gesamte Wochenende auf dem Red Bull Ring, wohlgemerkt das Heimrennen seines Teams, in einem Fiasko. Nach dem siebten Platz im Qualifying war das Rennen am Sonntag für ihn bereits nach einer Runde vorbei, nachdem er in Kurve 3 von Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) angerempelt wurde. Obwohl sich dieser kurz darauf entschuldigte, war das Rennen für beide Fahrer beendet.“

Großbritannien

„Independent“: „Lando Norris hat den Kampf der McLarens gewonnen und mit seinem Sieg in Österreich die Moral gestärkt, die ihm in der Weltmeisterschaft noch einmal Auftrieb gibt.“

„Guardian“: „Lando Norris gewann den Großen Preis von Österreich nach einem harten, spannenden Kampf mit seinem McLaren-Teamkollegen Oscar Piastri. (…) Nach ihrem Aufeinandertreffen beim letzten Rennen in Kanada muss McLaren das Herz in die Hose gerutscht sein, denn Norris und Piastri lieferten sich im ersten Renndrittel ein packendes Duell, bei dem es bis zur Zielflagge spannend blieb.“

„Daily Mail“: „Max Verstappen war wütend auf Kimi Antonelli, nachdem der Mercedes-Pilot in der ersten Runde des Großen Preises von Österreich mit seinem Red Bull kollidierte und beide aus dem Rennen warf.“

„Mirror“: „Norris kam unbeschadet durch und holte sich seinen dritten Grand-Prix-Sieg in diesem Jahr. Piastri war vielleicht etwas frustriert, dass er sich mit dem zweiten Platz begnügen musste, nachdem er während des gesamten Rennens eine starke Pace gezeigt hatte, aber nicht überholen konnte.“

„Mundo deportivo“: „Wie schon im ersten Teil des Rennens auf dem Red Bull Ring am Sonntag könnte es auch im weiteren Verlauf der Weltmeisterschaft zwischen den beiden Autos aus Woking sehr spannend werden. Das Kopf-an-Kopf-Rennen zwischen Oscar Piastri und Lando Norris versprach eine spannende Angelegenheit zu werden, nur zwei Wochen nachdem Lando den Australier touchiert hatte.“

„As“: „Es gab Kämpfe, Schlachten, Spannungen zwischen den Teamkollegen und Fehler, aber Norris gewann den GP von Österreich und ist damit wieder auf Titeljagd. Damit hat er sieben Punkte auf Piastri gutgemacht, aber die Tatsache, dass er sich von einem ungeschickten Crash in Kanada mit dem besten Wochenende der Saison in Spielberg – Pole, Sieg und Wiedergutmachung – erholt hat, ist viel wertvoller.“
