John Textor (59), Besitzer des siebenmaligen Meisters, tritt von allen Führungsfunktionen zurück. Das gab der Traditionsklub jetzt offiziell bekannt.
In der Stadt Lyon hatte es zuvor massive Fanproteste gegeben. Die größte Lyoner Fan-Vereinigung „Bad Gones“ hängte an mehreren markanten Orten Protestplakate mit der Aufschrift „Textor dehors“ („Textor raus“) auf.
Die Banner wurden unter anderem am Tor der Basilika Notre-Dame de Fourvière, in der Nähe des Groupama-Stadions und auf den Brücken über die Flüsse Rhône und Saône angebracht. „John Textor war nie der geeignete Mann und wird es niemals sein“, heißt es in einer Erklärung der „Bad Gones“.

Textors Nachfolgerin ist Michele Kang (66) – eine US-Unternehmerin und bisher Mehrheitsaktionärin des Frauenteams. Sie wird neue Klubchefin und übernimmt zudem eine führende Rolle in Textors Holding „Eagle Football“.
Der Hintergrund: Die DNCG hatte vergangene Woche entschieden, dass Lyon wegen massiver Finanzprobleme nicht in der Ligue 1 bleiben darf. Der Klub war in der abgelaufenen Saison Sechster geworden – sportlich stark, wirtschaftlich instabil.
Schon im November 2024 war der Traditionsverein auf Bewährung zum Abstieg verurteilt worden. Die damalige Schuldenlast: rund 500 Millionen Euro!
