La lesión de espalda que arrastra desde las ATP Finals de 2023 ha condicionado toda su temporada. Aunque logró un título en Dubái, no ha vuelto a pisar una segunda semana en Grand Slams. “Llevo nueve torneos de Grand Slam seguidos sin llegar a semifinales. No es casualidad. Mi cuerpo no responde”, admitió con resignación.
El ex número 3 del mundo explicó que el dolor afecta directamente a su estilo de juego: “No puedo girar bien el cuerpo, no tengo potencia. En este deporte necesitas rotar. Si no puedes rotar, no hay razón para estar ahí”.
Pero lo más preocupante fue el mensaje que dejó sobre su continuidad: “Si esto sigue así, no tiene sentido competir. En algún momento tengo que ponerle un límite a todo esto. Dentro de un par de meses, si no veo una mejora, tendré que tomar decisiones”.
Actualmente, Tsitsipas ha empezado a trabajar con Goran Ivanisevic, exentrenador de Novak Djokovic, en un intento por relanzar su carrera. Sin embargo, ni el cambio de equipo ni los tratamientos médicos han logrado frenar el deterioro físico que lo aqueja desde hace más de un año.
