Einen Beliebtheitspreis wird die Fifa-Klub-WM wohl nicht gewinnen.
Nach Jürgen Klopp (57) hat nun auch Star-Trainer Pep Guardiola (54) das neue Format heftig kritisiert.
Klopp hatte im Interview mit „Welt am Sonntag“ gesagt, die Klub-WM ist „die schlechteste Idee, die jemals im Fußball umgesetzt wurde. Da denken sich Leute etwas aus, die mit dem Tagesgeschäft noch nie etwas zu tun hatten oder nichts mehr damit zu tun haben.“

Guardiola, der mit seinem Team Manchester City am Achtelfinale auf Al-Hilal trifft (Dienstag, Anstoß 3 Uhr/Live auf DAZN), wählt ebenfalls deutliche Worte. Guardiola: „Wenn sich die Spieler und Trainer ausruhen, hat man mehr Qualität. Daher hat mich das nicht überrascht. Ich verstehe ihn und respektiere ihn. Ich habe ein unglaubliches Verhältnis zu Jürgen.“
Pep sagt über die Belastung: „Nach diesem Wettbewerb werden wir so lange pausieren, wie es uns die Premier League erlaubt. Und dann schauen wir von Spiel zu Spiel, von Monat zu Monat, wir werden sehen. Und vielleicht werden wir dann im November, Dezember, Januar ein Desaster sein. Wir werden erschöpft sein. Die Klub-WM wird uns zerstört haben. Ich weiß es nicht.“

Allerdings sei Guardiola auch „stolz“ darauf, um den Titel zu spielen. Guardiola: „Es ist ja auch ein Job. Wir folgen der Fifa, der Uefa, der Premier League, der Serie A… Die Trainer organisieren die Wettbewerbe nicht, jeder hat seine Rolle.“
ManCity hat in den USA in der Gruppenphase drei souveräne Siege eingefahren. Dabei hat Guardiola die Chance genutzt, sein Team in verschiedenen Systemen zu testen.
Die Premier League startet am 15. August in die neue Saison. Dann will Guardiola mit den „Skyblues“ wieder die Meisterschaft nach Manchester holen.
