Texas quarterback Arch Manning has stepped into the spotlight for reasons far beyond the gridiron.
After devastating flash floods ripped through Central Texas over the July 4 weekend, reporting more than 100 fatalities and dozens still missing, Manning took to social media to mobilize aid and financial support.
In a heartfelt Instagram video, Manning addressed the crisis with sincerity:
“Hey, everyone, this is Arch Manning. The flooding in Central Texas has devastated communities and caused enormous loss. My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected. Please join me in donating to the four organizations below who are providing vital support as recovery efforts get underway. Thank you.”
He provided links to four grassroots groups working directly on the ground: the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, Texas Search and Rescue, Mercy Chefs, and the United Cajun Navy.
These organizations offer everything from search efforts and rescue operations to hot meals and logistics for displaced families.
Leadership through action: Manning’s call for unity
Fans and commentators responded enthusiastically to Manning‘s initiative. On social media, one fan remarked:
“This the same guy everyone hates on and trashes lol??? Generational QB1”
Others praised his initiative: “Leadership on and off,” and “We appreciate you.”
Manning‘s message offers a clear example of community leadership, urging everyone, not just Texans, to participate.
As he noted in his post, many Americans want to help but don’t know how; his guidance made it simple to act .
His effort is part of a larger wave of relief initiatives from sports entities in Texas. The NFL, along with the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys, has committed $1.5 million to immediate flood relief.
The Houston Astros added $1 million focused on both urgent aid and long-term recovery, particularly for youth programs. The Houston Rockets, Mavericks, Spurs, NBA, and NBPA together pledged another $2 million.
These mobilizations have happened while rescue efforts remain ongoing.
Kerr County sheriff’s teams are still searching for at least five missing children and one counselor from Camp Mystic, where floodwaters rose more than 20 feet in under an hour. Recovery work continues along the swollen Guadalupe River.
Manning‘s personal connection to the cause may run deeper than his Texas roots. Hailing from the storied Manning family of New Orleans, he has indirect ties to past hurricanes; his family endured Hurricane Katrina, perhaps informing his empathy and sense of responsibility.
While preparing to take the reins as Texas’s starting quarterback, Manning has shifted the focus to the larger challenges facing his home state.
He hasn’t publicly disclosed a donation amount, but his decision to both give and advocate is already earning praise.
By spotlighting grassroots charities, Manning is helping funnel resources to local heroes: Mercy Chefs delivers up to 20,000 meals daily, and the United Cajun Navy has a history of rapid deployment in disaster zones.
Texas Search and Rescue and the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund continue to lead search, rescue, cleanup, and supply distribution efforts.
