Iván Romeo, el ‘arcoíris de la cabra’, afronta su gran día en el Tour: “Llevo tiempo esperándola”

Caen marca hoy una jornada especial para Iván Romeo. En su primer Tour de Francia, el joven corredor del Movistar Team se mide por fin a la contrarreloj de 33 kilómetros que tenía subrayada en rojo desde que se conoció el recorrido. “Es un día que llevo esperando bastante tiempo, espero que salga como lo hemos planeado”, declaró a pie de carrera con la serenidad de quien sabe que se juega algo más que un resultado: su confirmación entre la élite.

Romeo no es ajeno a la presión, pero la gestiona con madurez. En una reciente entrevista con MARCA, tras proclamarse campeón de España en Granada, ya apuntaba su ambición para esta jornada: “Desde luego que es un objetivo. Estoy en buen estado de forma y esa crono la tengo entre ceja y ceja”.

Campeón mundial sub-23 de la disciplina y uno de los ciclistas con más proyección del pelotón, el vallisoletano es consciente de que no peleará por la victoria ante gigantes como Evenepoel, Pogacar o Vingegaard, pero tiene claro lo que busca: “Es mi primera crono larga en el Tour, me quedaría contento con un top 10. Puedo acabar el 20 o más arriba, pero quiero sentir que estoy con los mejores”.

A ese sueño le pone rostro su familia. Su madre y su hermano están hoy en Caen para apoyarle en persona, como ya hicieron en Granada hace apenas una semana. “Siempre han sido mi mayor apoyo. Somos una familia muy normal, y lo disfrutan casi más que yo”, confesaba Romeo en MARCA. El propio Iván destacaba en aquella charla el vínculo con su hermano, con quien ve cada verano el Tour por televisión. “Este año va a ser raro, porque estaré dentro. No sé si después de correrlo me van a quedar ganas de ver la clasificación, pero va a ser una experiencia increíble”.

La crono de Caen no es solo una prueba de fuerza y posición, también de cabeza. Romeo lo sabe y lo afronta con determinación: “Tiene alguna zona técnica al principio, pero sobre todo es una crono de tener cabeza, de aguantar”.

Mirando al futuro

Con solo 21 años, Romeo quiere seguir construyendo su camino paso a paso. “No intento ser como otros corredores del pasado, por muy buenos que hayan sido. Intento forjar mi propio camino”, explicaba a este diario. Y ese camino tiene hoy una etapa importante en la región de Normandía.

Apoyado por su entorno, respaldado por su equipo y con la confianza que da haber ganado ya varias carreras este año —incluido el Nacional—, Iván Romeo quiere dejar claro que su sitio en el pelotón es real. Hoy, en Caen, empieza a demostrarlo.
