Deion Sanders didn’t come to Big 12 Media Days just to talk about Colorado football. He came with an agenda-and a long list of changes he thinks college football desperately needs.
Speaking to reporters in Frisco, Sanders hit on everything from the chaos of the transfer portal to the lack of dress code enforcement. His tone was confident, pointed, and, as usual, unfiltered. “There’s gotta be a salary cap on this stuff because it’s going crazy,” he said. “Nobody knows where it’s going to land.”

The “stuff” he’s talking about is, of course, the new NIL era-where top recruits are rumored to command millions before they even step on campus. Sanders didn’t name names, but made it clear that the system, as it stands, is ripe for abuse. “How can somebody say you got a five million dollar offer and the kid is not in the portal?” he asked. “That needs to be investigated.”
Coach Prime’s Vision: Borrow from the NFL, Fix the NCAA
Sanders also wants the NCAA to borrow more from the pros. His suggestions include requiring two feet inbounds for catches, adopting the NFL’s pass interference rules, and yes-even cracking down on players who don’t wear full-length pants.
“I like the professional rules to be implemented in college,” he said. “They’re getting ready to be pros-let’s treat them like it.”
Uniforms might seem like a small issue, but for Sanders, it’s about standards. “Guys out there in biker shorts, no knee pads, pants up under their thighs… there should be fines,” he said, half-laughing but clearly serious.
Despite all the criticism, Sanders made a point to say how much he loves the game.“We have a pretty good game, a darn good game. One of the best,” he said, smiling. “That’s why people watch us. Whether they want to see us win or lose-people want to see us.”
Colorado is coming off a strong 9-4 season and will kick off its 2025 campaign against Georgia Tech on August 29 at Folsom Field. Sanders says he feels “wonderful” despite recent health issues and is focused fully on the team’s continued rise.
With five players joining him on media day-quarterbacks Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis among them-there’s no doubt Coach Prime is building a roster he believes can compete. But if Sanders gets his way, he might just help reshape the game off the field, too.
