Xabi Alonso
Patrik Schick (29) war neben Jonathan Tah (29/zum FC Bayern) und Florian Wirtz (22/zum FC Liverpool) der herausragende Spieler der vergangenen Saison bei Vizemeister Bayer Leverkusen.
In 45 Pflichtspielen erzielte der Stürmer 27 Tore. Die Folge: Leverkusens Sport-Boss Simon Rolfes (43) erteilte Schick in der Sommerpause ein Wechselverbot. Mehr noch: Leverkusen will mit dem tschechischen Nationalspieler über 2027 hinaus verlängern.
Schick sagte im Gespräch mit SPORT BILD im Trainingslager der Werkself in Rio de Janeiro: „Natürlich ist es schön, dass der Verein an mich glaubt. Wir stehen in Verhandlungen, aber wir brauchen noch ein bisschen Zeit, um die Themen in Ruhe zu besprechen. Ich kann mir vorstellen, zu verlängern. Aber es kann noch etwas dauern, bis wir uns einigen.“

Unter Neu-Trainer Erik ten Hag (55) soll Schick eine zentrale Figur in der neuen Mannschaft einnehmen. Aber wäre er auch unter Trainer Xabi Alonso (43/jetzt Real Madrid) geblieben?
„Ich weiß es nicht“, gibt Schick zu, „angenommen, Xabi wäre geblieben, hätten wir uns, wie in der vergangenen Saison, noch mal unterhalten müssen. Danach hätte ich eine Entscheidung getroffen.“
Das Verhältnis zwischen Schick und Alonso galt als unterkühlt, da der Trainer oft Victor Boniface (24) den Vorzug gab. Besonders enttäuscht war Schick darüber, dass er im Bundesliga-Duell gegen den FC Bayern im Februar erst Sekunden vor dem Abpfiff eingewechselt wurde. Die Partie endete 0:0, Leverkusen verpasste durch Wirtz den Siegtreffer.
„Ich denke, es war das entscheidende Spiel der Saison. Im Nachhinein ist man immer schlauer. Wenn Florian das Tor in der letzten Minute erzielt hätte, würden Sie mir die Frage nicht stellen“, sagt Schick, „aber wir mussten gewinnen, und wenn du 20 Tore auf der Bank hast, ist es schwer zu akzeptieren, nicht zu spielen.“
Schick suchte anschließend das Gespräch mit Alonso: „Ja, ich habe ihm gesagt, dass ich enttäuscht war. Aber er war unser Boss. Er hat entschieden, er hatte die Verantwortung. Manchmal muss man Dinge einfach hinnehmen, und das war genau das, was ich getan habe.“
