For most fans, the Bills’ season begins and ends with one question: is this finally the year they win it all?Buffalo has been a fixture in playoff talks for years now, but that elusive Super Bowl appearance – let alone a win – remains out of reach.
Josh Allen hears it all. The hype. The expectations. The noise. But when the quarterback showed up to training camp this week, his message was different. “We’re not looking past anything,” Allen said. “You don’t win it all unless you get in first. That’s our focus.”

He’s echoing the approach head coach Sean McDermott has instilled since day one: playoff-caliber, or nothing. McDermott’s mantra isn’t flashy, but it’s been the bedrock of Buffalo’s rise in the AFC. Under his leadership, the Bills have made five playoff appearances in the past six seasons.
Resetting the Mindset in Buffalo
The reality is simple: Buffalo has had the talent. What they need now is execution when it counts. Last year’s divisional round loss to the Chiefs – their third playoff loss to Kansas City in four seasons – left a bitter taste. ESPN’s analysts still put Buffalo among the top five most likely teams to make a deep run, but the locker room isn’t planning a parade just yet.
“Everyone’s talking about February,” said safety Jordan Poyer in a recent interview with The Athletic,“but it’s July. We’ve got to earn our way back first.”
Allen, now entering his seventh season, knows the clock is ticking. His chemistry with offensive coordinator Joe Brady and offseason additions like veteran lineman David Edwards show that Buffalo is still all-in. But there’s a noticeable shift in tone: less bold predictions, more focus on daily progress.
From the outside, the Bills might look like Super Bowl-or-bust. But from inside the building, they’re trying to ignore the finish line – at least for now.
“Every step matters,” Allen said. “We want the big prize, of course. But we’ve got to earn the right to even be in that conversation.”
