Der monatelange Ausfall von Marc-André ter Stegen (33) im Tor des FC Barcelona. Doch auch der deutschen Nationalmannschaft wird er fehlen. Dazu äußert sich jetzt Lothar Matthäus (64).
Der Rekord-Nationalspieler des DFB (150 Länderspiele) bei „Sky“: „Grundsätzlich muss sich Julian Nagelsmann (Bundestrainer; d.Red.) auf jeden Fall Gedanken machen – denn Marc-André ter Stegen muss nicht nur erneut operiert werden, sondern wird es auch danach schwer haben, Spielpraxis zu bekommen.“ Der Torwart selbst kündigte an, wegen einer Operation am Rücken etwa drei Monate auszufallen. Damit würde er erst Ende des Jahres wieder spielen können. Allerdings ist er bei Barça nicht mehr die Nummer 1. Heißt: Selbst wenn er wieder fit ist, wird er dann wohl nicht das Tor hüten.
[–>Matthäus‘ Meinung: „Unter Hansi Flick wird er bei Barcelona wahrscheinlich nicht mehr spielen.“ Das wäre für ter Stegen schlecht in Hinblick auf die WM 2026 in Kanada, Mexiko und den USA (11. Juni bis 19. Juli). Schlecht auch für den Bundestrainer?
Matthäus: „Julian hat mit Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nübel und Bernd Leno gute Alternativen. Sollte er in den kommenden Monaten jedoch feststellen, dass er diesen Optionen nicht hundertprozentig vertrauen kann, kann man sich natürlich mit Manuel Neuer beschäftigen. Der muss allerdings auch selbst wollen und entscheiden, ob er sich neben den vielen Spielen mit Bayern München noch einmal dieser zusätzlichen Belastung stellen will. Manuel müsste also bereit sein. Zuletzt hat er gut gehalten, war jedoch immer wieder von Verletzungen geplagt.“
„Unglücklicher Zeitpunkt“: Muss ter Stegen um WM bangen?
Didi Hamann (51) bei „Sky“: „Die Option Manuel Neuer muss man sich natürlich offenhalten. Allerdings hat er im vergangenen Jahr einige Spiele verpasst. Ihn jetzt ins DFB-Tor zu stellen, halte ich nicht für richtig. Julian Nagelsmann sollte die Länderspielpausen im Herbst nutzen, um eine Nummer eins zu finden – und dabei weiterhin auf Oliver Baumann und Alexander Nübel setzen. Sollte sich bis zum Frühjahr weiterhin keine klare Nummer eins herauskristallisieren und Bedarf bestehen, wäre Manuel Neuer natürlich eine Option, über die man immer nachdenken muss.“
Nach 124 Länderspielen hatte Neuer im August 2024 sein Ende in der DFB-Elf verkündet. Damals erklärte er: „Jeder, der mich kennt, weiß, dass mir diese Entscheidung nicht leichtgefallen ist. Wenn ich heute zurückblicke, erfüllt es mich mit Stolz und einer Menge Dankbarkeit, mit den ganzen Teamkollegen auf dem Platz gestanden zu haben und auch über sieben Jahre lang Kapitän der deutschen Nationalmannschaft gewesen zu sein – bis zu meiner Verletzung. Ich habe es geliebt, das Trikot der Nationalmannschaft zu tragen.“
