HSV-Star Torunarigha – „Klinsmann war für mich ein Wendepunkt“

Jordan Torunarigha (27) soll der neue Abwehrchef des Hamburger SV werden. In SPORT BILD spricht er über seinen Wechsel von Gent zum Aufsteiger und inwieweit er Ex-Bundestrainer Jürgen Klinsmann (60) seine Profi-Karriere zu verdanken hat.

„Ein paar Tage vor dem Ulm-Spiel (am 10. Mai/durch das 6:1 stieg Hamburg auf; d. Red.) kontaktierte mich der HSV. In den Tagen und Wochen danach führte ich einige Video-Telefonate, dafür musste ich mir extra die App von Teams auf mein Handy laden. Ich hatte sofort ein gutes Gefühl, es war quasi wie Liebe auf dem ersten Blick“, sagt Torunarigha über das Hamburger Angebot.

Und weiter: „Alle, also Sportvorstand Stefan Kuntz, unter dem ich Spieler bei der deutschen U21 war, Sportdirektor Claus Costa und natürlich das Trainerteam mit Merlin Polzin an der Spitze, haben mir sofort ein sehr gutes Gefühl gegeben.“

Wie liefen die Gespräche? Torunarigha: „In den Gesprächen haben sie mir Highlights vom HSV aus der vergangenen Saison gezeigt, damit ich ein noch besseres Gefühl für den Klub bekomme. Sie zeigten auch Statistiken von mir aus meiner vergangenen Saison und erklärten, wieso mein Spieler-Profil sehr gut zum Team passt.“

Bundesliga-Erfahrung sammelte Torunarigha bei Hertha BSC. Dort war Klinsmann während der Saison 2019/20 sein Trainer. In dem von SPORT BILD im Februar 2020 enthüllten Tagebuch schrieb der Welt- und Europameister über Torunarigha: „Top-Talent, großer Mehrwert möglich mit über 20 Millionen Euro.“

[–>Dazu sagt der HSV-Star heute: „Dass er mich als Mehrwert eingestuft hat, das ist eine große Ehre für mich. Jürgen Klinsmann war für mich persönlich und meine Karriere sehr wichtig. Bevor er zu Hertha kam (Coach vom 27. November 2019 bis 11. Februar 2020; d. Red.), hat keiner aus dem Trainer-¬Team mit mir richtig geredet. Wenn sich einer verletzt hatte, wurde ich reingeworfen. Wenn ich schlecht spielte, hieß es: Er ist noch nicht so weit. Durch Klinsmann änderte es sich.“

Und weiter: „Er redete mit mir, zeigte mir einen klaren Plan auf. Er meinte: ‚Wir sind im Abstiegskampf, ich setzte erst einmal auf die älteren Spieler. Aber deine Zeit wird kommen.‘ Das rechne ich ihm hoch an – das war ein Wendepunkt für mich. In meinem Kopf hatte es Klick gemacht. Ich dachte: Den Durchbruch bei den Profis zu schaffen, ist doch noch nicht vorbei.“
