V listopadu se zranil při utkání 22. kola proti Pardubicím a Hradec Králové už s jeho účastí v sezoně ani moc nepočítal. Pak se ale Blain překvapivě objevil v sestavě proti stejnému soupeři v extraligovém semifinále. Šťastný konec s Mountfieldem nakonec nenapsal, celkem loni naskočil jen k devíti duelům a s východními Čechy se rozloučil.
Máte za sebou nejtěžší období?
Byla to nejtěžší sezona, které jsem kdy čelil. Hodně jsem se o sobě naučil a uvědomil si spoustu věcí. Zdravotních problémů bylo tolik, že je těžké vypíchnout jeden.
Návrat během play off byl poněkud překvapivý.
Nebyl jsem zcela připravený, ale chtěl u toho být. Tušil jsem, že po sezoně v Hradci nejspíš pokračovat nebudu, takže jsem chtěl sezonu s kluky dohrát a rozloučit se s fanoušky, protože to město pro mě hodně znamená. Našel jsem si v něm přátele na celý život.
Vy jste věděl, že budete končit? Smlouvu s Hradcem jste ještě měl.
Nevěděl, spíš jen tušil. Byla to pro mě těžká sezona a vím, že hokej je pořád jenom byznys.
Zdravotní stránku jste se sportovním manažerem Kladna Tomášem Plekancem probíral?
Ano, máme mezi sebou nějaké dohody. Naštěstí mám dobré doktory i fyzioterapeuty, takže už jsem na sto procent připravený.
Kladno vstupuje do nové éry. Jak se těšíte?
Jsem nadšený. Myslím, že směr, kterým se klub ubírá, je skvělý. Snažíme se být týmem, kterým Kladno kdysi bývalo. Chceme být konkurenceschopní a je velká zábava u toho být hned od prvního roku.

Bylo cílem zůstat v extralize?
Stoprocentně, žiju už sedm let v Praze. Mám tady přítelkyni, život si tady užívám.
Čím vám přirostlo Česko k srdci?
Miluji zdejší lidi. Všichni mí kamarádi jsou Češi. I ti, co hokej vůbec nehrají. Jsou tu dobré podmínky pro život. Samozřejmě Praha je úžasná, Česko má od všeho něco a všude je to kousek na cestování. Můj domov už je tady, nejspíš tady zůstanu i po kariéře. Moje žena je sice z Turecka, ale narodila se už v Praze a pracuje tady, takže i ona je tu doma.
Jak jste na tom s češtinou?
Jsem v ní docela dobrý, ale před mikrofony se ještě stydím. Ale slibuji, že pár rozhovorů v češtině dám.
Kladno je spojené s Jaromírem Jágrem. Jak se s ním trénuje?
Je druhým nejlepším hokejistou v historii. Pro Čechy je jako Wayne Gretzky pro Kanaďany. Nedává smysl, jak je ve svém věku dobrý. Od něj se má člověk pořád co učit. Jak se připravuje a jakou má vášeň pro hru.
Bude pokračovat v kariéře?
To nevím, ptali jste se ho? Nechci vyzradit žádné tajemství, to zůstane v kabině. Ale doufám, že hrát bude. Je skvělé mít ho kolem sebe.
Za ty roky jste Jágra poznal jako soupeře. Jaký byl?
Jeho hokejka zabere půlku ledu, takže mu nejde vzít puk. Nesmí se k němu vůbec dostat, protože jinak vystrčí ten svůj zadek a to už jste úplně bez šance.
