Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Adam Butler provided a measured response regarding the release of former teammate Christian Wilkins, following reports of a controversial incident and injury-related concerns.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Wilkins was released after allegedly kissing a teammate on the head, an action that reportedly offended the teammate.

While one source described the gesture as “playful,” the teammate filed a complaint that escalated to the team’s human resources department.

Beyond the incident, Wilkins’ release is also connected to his recovery from a Jones fracture in his left foot.
According to The Athletic’s Tashan Reed, Wilkins declined to undergo a second procedure on the injury, raising questions about his commitment to the team.
When asked about Wilkins’ situation, Butler stated that the team had “moved on from the situation,” before emphasizing the importance of mental health support.
He advised individuals facing personal struggles to seek professional help and avoid making impulsive decisions.
Wilkins’ release resulted in the forfeiture of $35.2 million in guaranteed money on his contract. The Raiders designated him as a “terminated vested veteran,” a status that allowed the team to reduce guaranteed financial obligations.
In response, Wilkins requested the NFL Players Association to file a grievance on his behalf to recover the guaranteed funds, which was reportedly submitted last week.
Raiders clear up the matter
The Raiders explained their decision by citing the need to move forward with the organization’s commitment to excellence.
The team indicated that Wilkins did not have a clear plan or timeline for returning to play, making the release necessary to prepare for the upcoming season.
Wilkins appeared in five games before suffering an injury last season, recording two sacks and two tackles for loss during that period.
A former first-round draft pick, Wilkins spent five seasons with the Miami Dolphins, amassing 20.5 sacks and 43 tackles for loss in 81 games.
