Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker headed to Washington, D.C. on Thursday to stand alongside President Donald Trump for the relaunch of the Presidential Fitness Test. The visit comes during a scheduled off-day from Chiefs training camp and reflects Butker’s ongoing and unapologetic support for Trump.
He was joined by LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau and NFL legend Lawrence Taylor at the event, where Trump officially reinstated the long-retired youth physical fitness program.

Originally introduced by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966, the Presidential Fitness Test aimed to assess children’s physical abilities across a variety of exercises.
The test included one-minute timed sit-ups, maximum push-ups and pull-ups (or a flexed-arm hang), a 30-foot shuttle run, the V-seat reach, and a one-mile run. While the test was retired in the Obama era amid criticism for being outdated and body-shaming, Trump’s initiative seeks to bring it back as part of a broader campaign to improve youth physical health.
Butker’s role in the Fitness initiative
Butker will reportedly help promote the revived program through public appearances and media campaigns, representing both athletic excellence and Trump’s vision for a more physically active generation.
Alongside the fitness test revival, Trump is also reinstating the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition, naming Bryson DeChambeau as its chair. Other athletes, including NFL star Nick Bosa, are expected to serve on the council as well.
This isn’t Butker’s first time at the Trump White House. In February 2025, shortly after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss to the Eagles, he made a solo trip to meet with the former president.
Photos shared by the official White House and POTUS accounts captured Butker and Trump in the Oval Office, exchanging handshakes and smiles. A White House official described the meeting as informal but enthusiastic, with Trump expressing delight in welcoming the kicker.
While Butker is a top-tier NFL player, his public statements have made him a polarizing figure. His 2024 commencement speech at Benedictine College stirred backlash when he praised traditional gender roles, criticized Pride Month, and spoke against “the Church of Nice.”
He has since doubled down on those comments and launched a political action committee supporting Christian conservative values.
Butker’s appearance with Trump is likely to spark both praise and outrage. While supporters applaud his commitment to faith and fitness, critics argue he’s using his platform to promote divisive ideologies. As the Presidential Fitness Test makes its return, Butker’s presence ensures the initiative is anything but neutral, bringing with it the full force of political and cultural debate.
