John, ausência em Red Bull Bragantino x Botafogo, esteve perto de deixar o clube alvinegro. Levando em conta o interesse do West Ham, o camisa 12 ficou fora do confronto da Copa do Brasil, mas uma reviravolta ocorreu nos bastidores. Isso porque o acordo, que estava encaminhado, não foi concretizado. Agora, a intenção é manter o status de titular e, logo depois, buscar uma vaga na seleção.
Em contato com Venê Casagrande, o empresário de John explicou a decisão. Inicialmente, o valor de 10 milhões de euros (R$ 64 milhões) motivou o “sim” do Botafogo, mas a assinatura do contrato ficou pendente. Por conta disso, o cenário do goleiro ter se dirigido ao aeroporto, com intuito de desembarcar na Inglaterra, sequer ocorreu.
“Conversei com o empresário de John sobre a permanência do goleiro no Botafogo. A informação é que o Alvinegro e o West Ham se acertaram pela venda do atleta. No fim das contas, o goleiro recusou e optou por ficar no time carioca pensando na seleção brasileira.”, explicou Venê, em mensagem na plataforma X.
“A negociação foi feita. Clubes chegaram a um acordo. Chegou a proposta para nós e avaliamos o que seria melhor no momento. Como você vai para o aeroporto sem ter passagem, contrato feito? O processo normal. Clubes se acertaram. Estava nas nossas mãos. Fizemos uma escolha. Ficar. Ganhar. Seleção. Claro que a proposta era boa para todos. Botafogo principalmente. 10 milhões de euros por goleiro não é todo dia.”, informou o representante de John.
Reviravolta no Botafogo
Informado do acerto iminente, Davide Ancelotti agradeceu John pelos serviços prestados ao Botafogo. Sem o titular à disposição, Léo Linck ganhou uma chance diante do Red Bull Bragantino e, sem sofrer gols, contribuiu para a classificação do Glorioso na Copa do Brasil.
“A situação de John já estava clara para nós. Falei com ele e agradeci tudo que fez pelo clube. Para esse jogo o Léo é nosso goleiro. Máxima confiança nele, está preparado e todos estamos contentes de tê-lo.”, explicou Ancelotti, ao SporTV.
Concorrência de Neto?
Engatilhando a contratação de Neto, ex-Barcelona e Arsenal, o Botafogo agiu rápido no mercado. Aprovado nos exames médicos realizados, o goleiro aceitou o vínculo até junho de 2027. Apesar da permanência de John, a contratação tem chances de ser mantida, algo que deve acirrar a disputa pela titularidade.
