A statement that shook the fans
After the game, Betts said:
This season is over. My season is kind of over. We’re going to have to assume it wasn’t a great season
With these words, the eight-time All-Star acknowledged that his numbers have not been up to expectations, and that his focus now will be to contribute to the team in a practical way.
Currently, Betts is hitting .239 with 12 home runs and 51 RBIs in 106 games. In comparison, in 2024 he finished with .289, 19 home runs and 75 RBIs in 116 games.
Mindset shift for the rest of the year
Instead of chasing statistics, Betts said he will focus on “doing something every night to help the guys win: get a run, make a play, whatever”
He also added that he will adopt this perspective for the rest of his career, prioritizing collective impact over individual performance.
This approach could be key for the Dodgers on their way to the postseason, where the experience and leadership of Betts will be fundamental.
The support of the fans and his family
Despite his difficulties, Betts received a special ovation at Dodger Stadium, something he described as “super special” and “the first time something like that has happened to me”. He also thanked his wife, Brianna Hammonds, who celebrated her birthday on the same day as the game, for her constant support.
