Few double-digit leads in the NBA seem safe these days. Still, it feels like a long time since I’ve seen a first half take a 180-degree turn the way Tuesday night’s Heat-Magic quarterfinal did.Miami stormed to a 15-0 lead, and Orlando could not generate any stops or turnovers and, therefore, could not push forward in transition. If the last few seasons have taught the NBA nothing else about the Magic (other than how hard the team plays and its physicality, especially on defense), it’s that their offense has been weak when opponents force them to play in the half-court.Orlando no doubt initially felt the absence of its best two-way player, Franz Wagner, who suffered a left high-ankle sprain Sunday. Without Wagner, the Magic looked rudderless … at first. What changed? The Magic finally ramped up their defense, keyed by Jonathan Isaac off […]

Michigan coaching candidates: Kalen DeBoer, Marcus Freeman among options after sudden Sherrone Moore firing
As soon as it seemed like the college football coaching carousel was finally slowing down, Michigan announced it had fired Sherrone Moore for cause after an investigation revealed an inappropriate relationship with a staffer. The Wolverines becoming a late entry to the coaching search fray throws a real wrench in this offseason. We saw a ton of coaches sign fresh contract extensions after turning down openings at Penn State, Florida and Auburn, but Michigan may be a different beast. It is one of the best jobs in the country in terms of resources, and teams with a top-tier coach they haven't locked into an extension already may have to get ready to fight to keep their coach in town. Michigan hired Moore to keep things on track after Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL, but they never quite reached those same heights, […]

Sherrone Moore buyout: What’s left on the Michigan coach’s contract after he was fired ‘for cause’
Imagn Images Sherrone Moore's tenure as Michigan's coach came to an abrupt end on Wednesday after he was fired. Moore was terminated for cause by the school after an internal investigation concluded the Wolverines' coach had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. "Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately," Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement. "Following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and UM maintains zero tolerance for such behavior."Moore was tabbed Michigan's coach at the conclusion of the 2023 season after Jim Harbaugh departed to coach the Los Angeles Chargers.
