Stephen Jones makes it clear: Micah Parsons will remain with the Dallas Cowboys despite his trade request

The Dallas Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones has firmly stated that linebacker Micah Parsons will remain with the franchise despite the player’s recent trade request in the wake of their bitter contract feud.

Speaking just before the Cowboys‘ preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, August 10, the 61-year-old emphasized the 26-year-old’s commitment to the team ahead of the 2025/26 NFL season.

Micah Parsons makes an unexpected move at Cowboys training camp amidst the drama over trade request

“It’s great that he is here. It’s what’s expected. He’s under contract for us. We’ll keep going,” Jones said. “That’s the nature of the negotiation.

“If you look at any negotiations around the league right now…I think they’ve all negotiated a trade.”

Reinforcing that Parsons is still very much part of the Cowboys‘ plans, it seems as though there is no plan to move the four-time All-Pro and multiple Pro Bowl linebacker on to new pastures.

Meanwhile, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones refrained from commenting directly on Parsons‘ status during an interview with 105.3 The Fan. “Glad to see he’s working out and in shape and feels great. All of that is good. I don’t have anything to comment on.”

Beyond the Parsons saga, Stephen acknowledged ongoing issues on the Cowboys‘ defense, particularly at defensive tackle and cornerback, as injuries have taken a toll on key players.

Trevon Diggs, Shevon Revel, and Josh Butler are still recovering from setbacks sustained in 2024, while Caelan Carson is sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a hyperextended knee.

This leaves DaRon Bland as the primary healthy cornerback in the secondary, despite him only making 30 starts in the league since the 2022 NFL Draft, although he has been a regular since 2023.

The defensive tackle situation is equally precarious. Osa Odighizuwa has emerged as a clear leader at the position, but Mazi Smith has struggled to hold his ground against opposing offensive linemen.

This has opened the door for Solomon Thomas, Jay Toia, and Perrion Winfrey to compete for playing time.

“With them not ready to go yet,” Stephen continued. “You certainly think about that in terms of improving there if you get the opportunity to do it. I certainly think that’s a place where you get your fingers crossed a little bit.

“Mazi and Jay are doing a good job, but you still wanna see it live, because that position in the trenches, you don’t get a great feel for it. But I do have a lot of confidence (that) both guys are gonna step up for us.”

Joe Milton mixed reception in Cowboys cameo

Meanwhile the new Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Joe Milton, had an uneven performance in the team’s 31-21 preseason loss to the Rams.

He completed 17 of 29 passes for 143 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, and added 22 rushing yards on five carries before leaving early due to a minor elbow injury.

“D, probably a D minus if I’m being hard on myself. I just gotta settle down early and make all those throws,” Milton said, honest about his showing as per ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Despite accuracy issues, there is hope for improvement as Milton adjusts to the new offense. His next chance to play is August 16 against the Baltimore Ravens.
