Dallas Wings head coach Chris Koclanes is sending a clear message: injured or not, Paige Bueckers is still one of the most critical figures in the locker room. He wants her to keep playing everytime she can.
Talking to reporters following the hard-fought victory by the Wings over the Indiana Fever, Koclanes did not care about how much of a demanding order his request is for the young phenom. But to him, it is not optional.

More than a leader on the sidelines
Bueckers, the former UConn standout and most celebrated recent WNBA draft prospect, has been out with a lower-body injury. As much as the Wings miss her scoring ability and game smart thinking, Koclanes maintains her contribution is irreversible on points and assists.
In game-day practice and preparation, Bueckers has always been seen as being instrumental in destroying opponents’ tendencies, guiding younger players, and uplifting team morale when needed during tough and hard times. On the bench, she has been as active as she always is on the court; by providing guidance, cheering on teammates, and being accountable.
A crucial playoff push
The Wings are struggling to remain in the playoff picture, and each contest is more important than the other. Koclanes feels that Bueckers’ leadership and championship mindset, which developed through her stretch of dominance in the NCAA, will be an essential piece in leading the team through high-pressure times.
She’s been through big games, big moments. That kind of experience is rare and it’s something our players feed off of, even if she’s not in uniform
When will Paige be 100% recovered?
There is no official medial statement date yet, but sources indicate that the Wings are hopeful to have Bueckers back on her complete level on the court prior to the playoffs. Meanwhile, being vocal on the court will continue to be her top priority.
Fans have taken to social media to applaud her dedication, with many saying the type of dedication while injured is a great role model to set for young athletes.
For the Dallas Wings setting, however, Paige Bueckers is more than a returning player from injury, as she is likely to be the team’s playoff burst heartbeat. And if Koclanes’ aspirations are to be counted on, her influence will be just as large in street wear as it will be once she finally returns to the court.
