Zion Williamson trade rumors intensify as fans question Pelicans’ future

Zion Williamson‘s future with the New Orleans Pelicans has been called into question, with Williamson himself calling the situation “very frustrating” back in March.

The 25-year-old forward, once projected to transform the Pelicans immediately, is now facing scrutiny from fans and critics alike.

His injury history raises concerns about his long-term availability. Over the past three seasons, Williamson has participated in only 214 games, prompting questions about his durability and commitment to maintaining peak physical condition.

With his contract including strict weight and game-play clauses, the franchise appears to be preparing for either a redemption story or an eventual exit.

Despite putting up strong numbers when on the court, Zion‘s actual playing time continues to shrink each season, fueling mounting frustration online.

A recent image of the star forward with his shirt unbuttoned, showing a prominent belly, sparked concern among fans aware of his contract stipulations requiring his weight and body fat to remain under a combined 295 pounds.

With Zion having played just 214 of a possible 492 games, the photo intensified calls for a trade.

Insider chatter has even framed this period as his “last dance” in New Orleans, heightening the urgency among fans to move him before his value diminishes further.

Pro-Am speculation adds a twist

While trade rumors dominate headlines, another story is emerging from the West Coast. Fadeaway World reported that Jamal Crawford has already secured big names for the 2026 edition of his Crawsover Pro-Am in Seattle, including Stephen Curry and Zion Williamson.

Crawford told the Seattle Times, “The Crawsover will be back… Next year I have it planned out… there’ll be a better plan going forward for sure.”

The idea of Curry, even at 37, sharing the court with Zion in a fun yet competitive setting has generated buzz.

Fadeaway World noted, “Between Zion’s strength and Steph’s shooting, it’ll be must-watch TV.” Although only a Pro-Am, the matchup has fueled speculation about potential NBA pairings, even if temporary.

If both stars make appearances, this could mark one of the most high-profile Pro-Am events in years.

The 2023 Crawsover already set a high bar, featuring LeBron James and Jayson Tatum alongside NBA hopefuls and professional players.

Adding Curry and Zion to that mix could elevate the league into an unforgettable summer destination.

Crawford framed the potential lineup as more than just entertainment. “It shows that… the pro-am and Seattle basketball is not only on the map, but… the best in the world are checking in for it,” he said.

More than just highlight reels

For Curry, participating could serve as an extension of the offseason, offering a chance to stay sharp while engaging with grassroots basketball.

For Zion, it provides a platform to demonstrate health and readiness, while also supporting the development of up-and-coming players.

The Big Picture: Sam Darnold ‘Grateful’ for Vikings Stint and Landing in Seattle

RENTON, Wash. – Sam Darnold says there’s no hard feelings between him and the Minnesota Vikings after signing a three-year, $100 million deal to join the Seattle Seahawks in free agency this offseason. Without that stint, he wouldn't have landed the nine-figure contract and start for another playoff contender."I’m so grateful," Darnold told me, while we talked in a hallway outside the team’s indoor practice facility on Friday. "I keep using that word, but it’s true. I’m grateful for my time there and to come into a situation like this, with the coaching staff that we have and our locker room, just how close-knit and how tight we are. It’s such a good situation. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else now." Darnold’s sentiment makes sense, considering the Seahawks are in a prime playoff position at 8-3 and the Vikings, who […]
