Outfielder Cody Bellinger is having one of his best seasons since being named MVP in 2019.
With a .264 batting average, 22 home runs and 71 RBIs, he has been a key player for the New York Yankees both offensively and defensively. However, his stay in the Bronx is not guaranteed.

Although he has expressed his desire to stay, the presence of two emerging young talents, Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez, could influence management’s decision and complicate the outlook for Bellinger beyond 2025.

According to analyst Chris Gallagher, the rise of Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez could lead the Yankees not to renew Bellinger if he decides to opt out of his current contract.
“With Spencer Jones on the way and Jasson Dominguez being young, there is doubt whether the Yankees will really be willing to pay him,” Gallagher commented.
Bellinger signed a contract with a player option for 2026 that would allow him to earn $25 million. However, he is expected to test free agency in search of a long-term deal.
According to Spotrac, his market value is projected at six years for $131.5 million, which represents an annual salary of more than $21 million.
Cody Bellinger to the Mets?
If the Yankees do not offer an extension, the Mets could take advantage of the situation. According to Jon Heyman, executives from the team on the other side of town are interested in a player like Bellinger because of his versatile defense and ability to cover multiple positions.
The Mets are looking to shore up center field, where Tyrone Taylor has struggled offensively and Cedric Mullins was an emergency stopgap at the trade deadline. In addition, the possible departure of Pete Alonso would leave room on the payroll and in the lineup for a figure of Bellinger’s caliber.
Jason Dominguez and Spencer Jones threaten Cody Bellinger’s continuity
Jasson Dominguez, known as “The Martian,” has shown a great level with the bat. He recently had a four-hit game against the Blue Jays and was rewarded with the start as leadoff hitter against the Mets.Spencer Jones, ranked as the Yankees No. 4 prospect, has also impressed in the minor leagues. Between Double-A and Triple-A, he has a .289 average, with a .388 on-base percentage and .627 slugging percentage.
Both players represent the immediate future of New York’s outfield, and their low cost compared to Cody Bellinger’s potential contract could tip the scales against him.
