The Pittsburgh Steelers are actively searching to deepen their wide receiver options, recently hosting veteran wideout Gabe Davis for a second visit this offseason.
With star quarterback Aaron Rodgers aiming to build chemistry with his receiving corps, including notable players like DK Metcalf, the Steelers are eager to add more weapons to support their passing game.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported that Davis flew back to Pittsburgh for another visit this week, signaling the team’s continued interest. Davis began his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills, spending four seasons there and developing into a dependable deep threat for quarterback Josh Allen.
Over those years, Davis consistently found the end zone, catching at least six touchdowns each season and establishing himself as a reliable downfield target.
Last year, Davis signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but his production took a downturn. He recorded only 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns, a notable decline compared to his earlier years in Buffalo. Despite that drop in stats, Davis’ experience and ability to stretch defenses make him an attractive option for teams seeking to enhance their aerial attack.
Steelers look to bolster offense amid preseason uncertainty
With Rodgers still finding his feet with the Steelers, adding a player like Davis could provide a valuable injection of talent and experience into the offense.
While young receivers like Roman Wilson are competing for roles, an experienced veteran could offer Rodgers a dependable target and help the team diversify their offensive threats.
However, Pittsburgh faces competition for Davis’ services. The former Bills and Jaguars receiver has also visited the San Francisco 49ers, a team in need of receiver help. On the “Up And Adams” podcast, Davis spoke highly of the 49ers organization, praising head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offensive expertise and the talented roster.
“San Fran is definitely a spot that I’m looking at,” Davis said, highlighting his connections with several players on the team from his college and NFL experiences.
The Steelers open their 2025 campaign on Sunday, September 7, against the New York Jets. As the team shapes its roster and offensive strategy around Rodgers, the addition of a player like Gabe Davis could be a key piece in elevating their passing game.
Whether he ultimately signs with Pittsburgh or another franchise, Davis’ veteran presence and deep-threat ability will be factors teams consider carefully this offseason.
