Jannik Sinner se encuentra en Nueva York pese a que el martes se confirmó su retirada del torneo de dobles mixto del US Open que debía disputar junto a su compañera Katerina Siniakova contra Zverev y Bencic. Recordemos que el italiano se vio obligado a abandonar la final del Masters 1.000 de Cincinnati que disputaba contra Carlos Alcaraz al encontrarse mal.

Claramente debilitado, el número 1 del ranking ATP tuvo que renunciar a sólo cinco días de que el cuadro masculino del último Grand Slam del curso diera comienzo. Las alarmas se encendieron de inmediato. El transalpino sembró dudas con sus primeras declaraciones el mismo lunes: “Desde ayer no me sentía bien. Pensé que mejoraría durante la noche, pero me encontré peor. Aun así quise salir a la pista para intentar, al menos, disputar algo el partido, pero no pude resistir más”, explicó el campeón del US Open 2024. No quiere decir que el tenista se encuentre ya al cien por cien, pero está con energía para caminar por las calles de Nueva York y todo apunta a que su recuperación del virus que sufrió en Cincinnati avanza bien.

De hecho, él mismo advirtió cuál sería su hoja de ruta: “Me tomaré un par de días libres y luego volveré al trabajo”. Hoy también será una jornada de descanso y mañana retomará a los entrenamientos. El italiano no está siguiendo ningún tratamiento especial, sólo descanso y una vuelta gradual a la normalidad.
