The brutal statistic that leaves Anthony Volpe, Aaron Boone, and the Yankees in a tough spot as they struggle to survive against the Red Sox

If the New York Yankees want to compete for a postseason spot, they certainly won’t achieve it like this. The team led by Aaron Boone forgot all the good things they were doing recently, handing the series to their archrival Boston Red Sox, who reminded us that a hot streak can vanish out of nowhere-and at this stage, it could cost them the entire season.

Trent Grisham makes one of the coolest celebrations after hitting a home run against the Astros

Everyone must agree that the Yankees should have capitalized on their home-field advantage, but they didn’t, jeoparding their Wild Card position and posting numbers that are terrible, brutal, and every negative adjective imaginable.

The stat that exposes the Yankees’ struggles

The results from these three games (3-6, 0-1, 1-12) expose the Yankees, not only with a run differential of 4-19 but also due to their errors.

The most glaring stat is that the Yankees have committed more errors (5) than runs scored (4) in these three games, enough to allow the Red Sox to secure a winning streak they haven’t seen in 16 years.

The Boston Red Sox have won their last eight games against the Yankees, a feat they last accomplished in 2009-the same year the “Bronx Bombers” won their last World Series.

Without a doubt, these are two stats that don’t paint the Yankees in a good light, especially since they’re playing for everything in this final stretch of the season. They risk missing out entirely, just a year after reaching the World Series, where they lost to the Dodgers.

After losing the American League East lead, the Yankees are currently the second Wild Card team, tied with a 69-60 record alongside the Seattle Mariners, but with two teams-the Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Guardians-threatening to steal those spots.

There are still several games left for surprises to unfold, as the Yankees will face the Red Sox again with four games remaining against their hated rival this season. The big question is whether the team will hold up or sink as time runs out.

Rose: PGA Tour form ‘validates’ decision to snub LIV Golf

Justin Rose believes his decision to reject LIV Golf in 2022 has been ‘validated’ by his upturn in form on the PGA Tour in recent years. Rose claimed his first tournament win of the season in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, also marking his 13th career PGA Tour victory and his third since receiving the offer to join Saudi-backed LIV four years ago. The Englishman was a runner-up at the 2025 Masters, and was a key component of the first away Ryder Cup win in 13 years - opportunities that he may have missed, alongside fellow countrymen Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter, had he left the PGA Tour. Bunting on ignoring negative backlash and being Premier League ready
