Exakt 332 Tage (Stand 02. September 2025) hat er seine Haare nicht mehr schneiden lassen. Schuld daran: Premier League-Verein Manchester United.

Im Herbst 2024 legte sich Ilett selbst eine ungewöhnliche Challenge auf: kein Haarschnitt, bis United fünf Spiele in Serie gewinnt. „Ich habe die Challenge gestartet, um in einer schwierigen Zeit für den Klub ein bisschen Humor und Positivität zu verbreiten“, sagt er zu BILD.

Klingt einfach, doch United taumelt von Pleite zu Pleite. Statt Jubel gibt es Frust. Und Iletts Haare wachsen weiter. „Ich kann nicht glauben, dass das so lange ging. Ich dachte, es wären nur ein paar Monate!“

Wuschel-Haare werden zum Internet-Hit

Auf Instagram (@theunitedstrand) macht der in Spanien wohnende Engländer sein Projekt öffentlich. Mehr als 300.000 Follower schauen ihm auf seinem Konto inzwischen dabei zu, wie die Locken immer länger werden. Mal trägt er Stirnband, mal lässt er die Mähne wild herunterfallen.

Unter seinen Videos sammeln sich Hunderte Kommentare. Eine Userin schreibt: „Ich mag Fußball nicht einmal! Ich bin wegen der Haare hier!“ Ein anderer spottet: „Er setzt seinen Körper aufs Spiel. Im Gegensatz zu den Spielern im Team.“

Manchester United in der Krise

Die bittere Realität: In der Premier League steht United aktuell nur auf Platz neun. Letzte Saison mit Rang 15 die schlechteste Platzierung in den vergangenen zehn Jahren. Mehr als drei Siege in Serie hat die Mannschaft seit Monaten nicht geschafft. Statt einer Siegesserie geht es immer wieder zurück auf null.

Durchhalten um jeden Preis!

Und wenn die Haare bis zum Boden reichen? Aufgeben kommt für Ilett nicht infrage. „Nein, ich war immer voll dabei und mache weiter, egal wie lange es dauert!“ Selbst wenn United noch lange braucht, glaubt er an die Wende. „Ich bin optimistisch, dass es diese Saison klappt. Es war ein schwieriger Start, aber ich glaube, wir sind gar nicht so weit weg vom Gewinnen.“

Am Wochenende wartet das Derby gegen Stadtrivale Manchester City. Gewinnt United, wäre es Sieg zwei. Und vielleicht der Anfang der langersehnten Serie.
