Fernando Carro, CEO del Bayer Leverkusen, ha hecho un llamamiento para intentar mantener la competitividad de la Champions League ante la amenaza que, a su juicio, supone el desmesurado poderío económico de la Premier League. Así, durante su participación en congreso ‘El futuro de las finanzas’ auspiciado por Bloomberg que se ha celebrado en Frankfurt, el directivo español ha propuesto la instauración de un límite salarial internacional para los futbolistas, como existe en la NBA norteamericana.
“La Premier intenta convertirse en el producto número uno de Europa, incluso por encima de la Champions League. Normalmente estoy en contra de las regulaciones, pero es algo por lo que creo que tenemos que luchar. Ese tope salarial sólo tendría sentido si se aplica a escala global y como un límite absoluto”, defendió Carro, quien propuso la instauración de un sistema semejante al que Javier Tebas implantó en LaLiga en 2013.

La supremacía económica de la Premier frente al resto de Ligas va a más y preocupa al directivo del ex equipo que entrenó Xabi Alonso hasta el verano. En la pasada temporada los clubes ingleses sumaron ingresos agregados por más de 7.100 millones de euros, frente a los 3.600 de la Bundesliga, casi la mitad. Además, los clubes alemanes afrontan dificultades para atraer inversiones de fondos internacionales. El acuerdo con los fondos CVC y Blackstone para adquirir una participación en la Bundesliga se frenó por ante la fuerte oposición que mostraron los aficionados alemanes. Hay que recordar que en el país germano rige la regla del 50+1 que garantiza el control local de los clubes, lo que ejerce de barrera para la llegada de capital extranjero.
