Auch Ex-England-Nationalspieler und Manchester-United-Legende Wayne Rooney (39) legt den Finger in die Wunde, sagte: „Es war hart für ihn, das lässt sich wohl nicht leugnen. Er wird tief in sich gehen, um das Problem zu lösen.“
Grundsätzlich finde der ehemalige Stürmer, dass Wirtz „ganz gut gespielt“ habe, „aber wenn man so viele Spieler verpflichtet wie Liverpool, die im Grunde eine komplett neue Sturmreihe aufgebaut haben, während sie gleichzeitig noch Mo Salah haben, dann stehen sie alle in Konkurrenz zueinander. Und ich denke, Wirtz ist derjenige, der wahrscheinlich nicht so gut abschneidet. Er hat so viel Talent, aber ich sehe nicht, wo er in der Mannschaft spielen könnte.“

Für den 120-maligen englischen Nationalspieler macht der Deutsche den FC Liverpool sogar schlechter: „Es war eine Menge Geld (das Liverpool für ihn bezahlt hat), und ich glaube, dass Wirtz tatsächlich das Gleichgewicht von Liverpool und deren Spielweise beeinträchtigt.“
Rooney weiter: „Ich habe gesehen, wie Spieler in diese Liga gekommen sind, und es braucht Zeit. Für mich geht es nicht um den Preis, es geht um den Spieler und seine Fähigkeiten. Und ich sehe nicht, wo er in das System von Liverpool passt.“
[–>Wirtz ist unter Trainer Arne Slot bisher im offensiven Mittelfeld zum Einsatz gekommen. Bei allen Startelf-Einsätzen wurde er ausgewechselt, einmal nur eingewechselt. Bisher steht kein Einsatz über die gesamten 90 Minuten zu Buche.
Bei Rooney hätte Wirtz keinen Stammplatz: „Wenn ich zwischen ihm und Szoboszlai wählen muss, dann entscheide ich mich für Szoboszlai.“

Saints agree to 10-year extension to remain in New Orleans through 2035
The New Orleans Saints aren't going anywhere. On Thursday, the Saints announced that they had signed a 10-year lease extension to continue to play at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans through 2035. The Saints have been playing in the Superdome since 1975, and team owner Gayle Benson revealed that she had been working on this deal with the city for quite some time. "Discussions about this agreement have spanned two administrations, a global pandemic and Hurricane Ida," Benson said, via the Saints' official website. "I am totally happy that we will be sending a signed copy of this agreement to the NFL for their approval."We have entered into numerous negotiations with the state, for as far back as I can recall.
