Para sorpresa de nadie, gran parte de la rueda de prensa de los campeones de la Ryder Cup el domingo giró en torno al trato que los jugadores sufrieron en Bethpage Black por parte de los aficionados. Rory McIlroy fue claramente el blanco principal de la afición estadounidense y, por desgracia, su esposa Erica también estuvo en el punto de mira pues iba siguiendo los partidos de su marido. A veces esta semana no vimos eso. Así que no, esto no debería ser aceptable en la Ryder Cup. Nos aseguraremos de decirles a nuestros aficionados en Irlanda en 2027 que lo que sucedió aquí esta semana no es aceptable, y para mí… creo que si fuera estadounidense, me molestaría que la gente… Es que no escuché muchos gritos a favor de Scottie hoy [por el domingo], pero sí escuché muchos gritos en mi contra. En cuanto a su esposa, McIlroy señaló que estaba bien: “Es una mujer muy, muy fuerte. Manejó todo esta semana con clase, aplomo y dignidad, como siempre. La adoro, y vamos a celebrarlo esta noche”. Justin Rose confesó que Rory no les había contado nada sobre el ‘lanzamiento de lata’, momento en el que sí estuvo presente Shane Lowry y que captaron en exclusiva las cámaras de Movistar. Lowry, agregó: “Estuve allí dos días con Erica, y la cantidad de abusos que recibió fue asombrosa, y la forma en que estuvo allí apoyando a su esposo y a su equipo fue increíble, y mis felicitaciones a ella por eso”.
