„Pro Slovan jsem se rozhodl, protože si myslím, že to pro mě teď bude ten nejlepší krok,“ poznamenal Rakušan s bosenskými kořeny, jenž U Nisy podepsal smlouvu do roku 2029.

V úvodu soutěže však ještě tolik šancí nedostával. Měl problémy s intenzitou české ligy. „Přišel velmi, velmi dobře připravený, ale v české lize potřebujete víc zrychlení, zpomalení, hodně měnit směr, na což nebyl z Lafnitzu zvyklý. Neustále jsme to s ním řešili, ale už to pochopil a myslím, že se dostává do kondice, kterou bychom potřebovali,“ pověděl liberecký kouč Radoslav Kováč po triumfu 3:2 v Hradci Králové.
Pod Lízátky Mahmic nastoupil podruhé v základní sestavě za poslední tři kola a byl hodně vidět. Výrazný podíl měl už na první brance Slovanu, když jeho tečovanou střelu zpoza vápna gólman vyrazil jen k Lukáši Maškovi, který balon dorazil do sítě. A poté se parádně trefil na 2:2. „Neztratil jsem naději, že se trefím a povedlo se mi to poslední střelou. Šel jsem tam, kam by míč mohl spadnout a úplně přesně se tak stalo, trefil jsme míč z první,“ popsal druhý ligový gól v modrobílém dresu ofenzivní záložník.
Nejlépe se cítí na pozici špílmachra. „Tam mohu prokazovat své kvality. Umím přenášet hru ze zálohy do útoku a vytvářet šance a dostávat hráče přede mnou do dobrých pozic,“ tvrdil při svém představování na klubové platformě. Zatím v této sezoně platí rovnice: rodák z hornorakouského Welsu v základní sestavě Slovanu rovná se výhra, ke které přispěje gólem.
