It’s been a long week for Jerry Jones – and not just because the Cowboys dominated the Jets. The 82-year-old owner found himself trending for all the wrong reasons after cameras caught him flashing what looked like a middle finger toward the stands in the final moments of Sunday’s 37-22 win.
When asked about it afterward, Jones didn’t deny it – but insisted it was all a misunderstanding. “That was unfortunate,” he told reporters. “We were all celebrating after that last touchdown. I meant to give a thumbs-up to our fans, but I got a little mixed up. No harm meant.” Unfortunately for Jerry, the NFL wasn’t buying it.

Accident or not, the league sent a message
According to multiple reports from AP News, NBC Sports, and NFL.com, the league quietly hit Jones with a $250,000 fine – calling the gesture “conduct detrimental to the league.” The penalty landed about 48 hours after the game, and while Jones may appeal, insiders say the decision is likely to stand.
Video of the moment has already made the rounds online, showing Jones laughing, pointing, and then lifting his hand in a move that immediately sparked debate: was it intentional or just bad timing?
If this sounds familiar, it’s because Titans owner Bud Adams got slapped with the same fine back in 2009 for flipping off fans in Buffalo – proving the NFL has a long memory when it comes to “unprofessional gestures.”
The good news for Jerry? With Forbes valuing the Cowboys at around $13 billion, a quarter-million hit barely registers.
As one fan joked on X, “That fine’s like us losing a twenty in the parking lot.” Either way, Jerry Jones will be fine.
