Messi left without Busquets and Jordi Alba at Inter Miami: also without Luis Suarez?

Inter Miami is beginning to close one of the most emblematic chapters in its short history. After Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba confirmed their retirement at the end of the 2025 season, all eyes are now on Luis Suarez, whose future seems to be following the same path.

The era that began with Lionel Messi‘s arrival in MLS could have its end point in a matter of months, marking the end of the project that once again brought together the great figures of FC Barcelona under the Florida sun.

Messi’s kids bring the heat on the field

Barcelona’s dream in Miami

Since his arrival in 2023, Messi sought to surround himself with his old allies: Busquets, Alba and Suarez. They were later joined by Javier Mascherano, forming a squad with the essence of the all-conquering Barcelona team.

Together they returned competitiveness to a franchise that aspired to become a powerhouse in North American soccer, and they succeeded: Inter Miami not only achieved global media relevance, but also began to fight for titles, something unthinkable before the arrival of the Argentine star.

Jorge Mas and the future of Suarez

The club’s co-owner, Jorge Mas, spoke a few weeks ago about the situation of the Uruguayan striker:

“It’s up to them if they stay. Suarez has a great heart as a footballer. He gives everything in every game. I think the problem with Luis is physical, not emotional.”

The Pistolero’s contract expires on December 31, 2025, and although there is no official announcement, everything indicates that he will follow the same path as his teammates. His recurring knee problems and his definitive retirement from the Uruguayan national team point to an imminent end of the cycle.

In recent months, Suarez has devoted more time to personal projects, including Deportivo LSM, a venture he shares with Messi in Uruguay, reinforcing the idea of a future away from the pitch

A unique generation

Mas’ statements confirm what many already saw coming: the twilight of a generation that changed the history of modern football.

Only the passage of time has managed to stop a group of players who, between Barcelona and Miami, built a unique partnership.

Messi, who could renew to extend his career until the 2026 World Cup, will lose in the coming months three of his greatest partners and friends on and off the pitch.

The Messi-Suarez duo, a legendary partnership

Between their time at FC Barcelona and their reunion in Miami, Messi and Suarez played together in 292 matches, in which they won 13 titles, 296 goals by the Argentine with assists from the Uruguayan, and 105 assists from Luis to his inseparable teammate.

Out of those almost 300 matches, they lost only 29. Their understanding on the pitch was one of the most effective partnerships in modern football history, marked by friendship, complicity and a natural chemistry that is impossible to replicate.

The hardest goodbye

Busquets and Alba’s retirement marks the beginning of the end for “Barça de Miami”. But it will be Luis Suarez’s farewell that will hurt Lionel Messi the most, his partner, confidant and accomplice in so many victories.

With the departure of this generation, Inter Miami faces a renewal process in which names such as Rodrigo De Paul or Sergio Reguilon could lead the new era.

A golden era has come to an end. And while the goals, assists and embraces between Messi and Suarez will live long in the memory, their legacy at Inter Miami – and in world football – is already etched forever.
