Depois de uma temporada histórica em 2024, o Botafogo vive um ano marcado por frustrações. Quem afirmou isso foi o próprio John Textor, que classificou o desempenho como “fracasso” e admitiu ter dificuldade para achar um novo técnico.

O time carioca não levantou nenhum troféu até o momento e tenta agora ao menos garantir vaga na próxima edição da Libertadores. Em entrevista ao GE, o dono da SAF alvinegra, John Textor, fez uma avaliação sincera sobre o clube.

“Começamos o ano muito mal. Tivemos um treinador (Renato Paiva) com um ótimo sistema de jogo, mas acho que ele o abandonou. Estamos em quarto lugar no Brasileirão. Estou feliz? Eu disse que seria um fracasso se não vencêssemos nada, então é um fracasso. É difícil remotivar o elenco”, disse o empresário.

Textor cita o Palmeiras como exemplo de estabilidade

O dirigente também mencionou o Palmeiras como modelo de gestão e continuidade, destacando que o clube paulista conseguiu construir uma estrutura sólida com técnico estável e base forte.

“Olhe para o Fluminense: você ganha um título grande e todos querem sair. Ganhamos títulos e metade dos jogadores quis sair. É normal. É difícil, não temos o sistema do Palmeiras, com um treinador consistente e academia de base”, declarou Textor.

Segundo ele, o Botafogo sofreu com desmotivação e perda de peças importantes após o auge de 2024, o que dificultou a reconstrução do elenco.

Nenhum técnico quis assumir o clube após Artur Jorge

John Textor também revelou que, após a saída do técnico Artur Jorge, o Botafogo enfrentou dificuldades para contratar um substituto.

“A pressão este ano é ruim. Eu não tive um mês de relaxamento. Você ganha o Brasileirão e a Libertadores e dizem que a questão do treinador foi um planejamento ruim. Ninguém pode reclamar de perder um técnico (Artur Jorge) naquelas condições bizarras.”

O empresário afirmou que chegou a procurar diversos treinadores, mas cinco ou seis recusaram o convite.

“Podem falar que foi planejamento, mas ninguém aceitou. Eu sou persuasivo, mas ninguém quis. Se você chegou ao topo, todo treinador sabe que o próximo ano geralmente não vai ser tão bom. Talvez eu não tenha sido tão convincente, mas não foi falta de planejamento”, completou.

Um futuro incerto e o desafio de reconstruir o Botafogo

Com o desabafo, Textor deixou claro que o clube vive uma fase de transição delicada, tentando reencontrar a motivação e a identidade que marcaram a campanha vitoriosa do ano anterior.

No entanto, os bastidores do Botafogo seguem em ebulição. A disputa entre John Textor, dono da SAF alvinegra, e a Eagle Football, empresa que reúne os acionistas do grupo, ganhou um novo capítulo que pode redefinir o futuro do clube. O presidente do Botafogo associativo, João Paulo Magalhães Lins, se reuniu recentemente com representantes da Eagle e começou a articular caminhos que podem levar à saída do empresário americano do controle do futebol do clube.

A movimentação do dirigente sinaliza uma possível virada de postura dentro do Botafogo. Até poucos meses atrás, Magalhães Lins era visto como um dos principais aliados de Textor, mas agora passou a buscar alternativas para o futuro do clube sem o bilionário à frente da SAF.

De aliado a crítico

O movimento de João Paulo marca uma guinada em relação ao posicionamento adotado em julho deste ano. Naquele momento, o presidente do clube foi peça-chave para barrar uma tentativa da Eagle de destituir John Textor do cargo de principal gestor da SAF. Ele chegou a enviar uma carta defendendo a permanência do americano e alertando para o risco de uma “rebelião” interna caso o empresário fosse removido.

Agora, no entanto, o discurso mudou. Pessoas próximas ao presidente confirmam que ele não vê mais garantias financeiras e administrativas por parte de Textor, especialmente em relação ao aporte prometido desde a aquisição da SAF, em 2022.

Entre os questionamentos estão o descumprimento de investimentos mínimos e dúvidas sobre o caixa da empresa e indícios de que parte das receitas, como a venda do lateral Cuiabano ao Nottingham Forest, teria sido usada para cobrir a folha salarial da SAF.

John Textor, por sua vez, mantém o discurso de que não deixará o Botafogo e promete continuar à frente do projeto até o fim. Em declarações recentes, o empresário descartou a possibilidade de ruptura e chegou a ironizar as comparações com outros clubes em crise: “Não somos o Vasco”, afirmou.

Em entrevista recente, John Textor fez críticas públicas ao clube associativo e defendeu o ex-presidente Durcesio Mello. Textor considerou a atitude de convocar Durcesio para prestar esclarecimentos sobre documentos assinados na criação da SAF como uma “caça às bruxas”.

— Eu aceito as críticas, mas não aceito o extremismo. O clube social deveria deixar o Durcesio em paz. Se ele não tivesse assinado os documentos da SAF, o Botafogo não teria chegado aonde chegou — disse o americano.
