Just one week after Taylor Swift released The Life of a Showgirl, Katy Perry made headlines by publicly endorsing her former rival’s work.
Perry posted a snapshot of Eldest Daughter-a track from the new album-to her Instagram Stories, signalling her support for Swift’s latest musical chapter. She wrote: “We loved this one”, accompanying the text with an image of Swift’s song cover on Spotify.
Katy Perry left her fans amazed during her South American tour
This gesture is especially notable given how tense their relationship once was. During Swift’s February 2024 Eras Tour, Perry attended the show and shared concert photos to her Instagram, including a backstage selfie with Swift.
She captioned it, “Got to see an old friend shine tonight,” showing just how far their relationship had evolved.
Over the years, both artists have been linked to songs inspired by their feud-namely Swift’s “Bad Blood” and Perry’s “Swish Swish.”
But the antagonism has since shifted. In a July 2020 interview on The Howard Stern Show, Perry reflected on their reconciliation, saying: “Gossip in life can take the elevator but the truth takes the stairs. It just takes time.”
She added that the media had amplified their disagreement and that now they are “super friendly.” She went on: “What I’m so grateful for is we did get to make up publicly and got to be an example of redemption for young girls.
“I always wanted the best for her and now we can talk about the best we want for each other.”
Their journey toward renewed respect first became public when Perry “sent a literal olive branch” during Swift’s Reputation tour.
A symbolic move in a new chapter
Perry’s decision to spotlight Eldest Daughter feels deeply symbolic. The song’s themes of identity, vulnerability, and public perception echo much of what both Swift and Perry have navigated in their careers and personal lives.
By sharing it, Perry is doing more than streaming a track-she’s making a statement of solidarity. That solidarity gains force when viewed within the context of their history. Long before their reconciliation, the pair had engaged in public jabs that fueled tabloid speculation and fan wars.
Their eventual rapprochement-first through gestures, later through creative collaboration as Perry made a cameo in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” video-was itself a kind of media narrative shift from rivals to peers.
Perry’s Instagram support also aligns with how she has spoken about healing and example-setting. Her earlier remarks that they wanted to “set an example” show that this isn’t just a PR move; it reflects a deeper intention to change the narrative for younger artists and fans alike.
Pop royalty approves of The Life of a Showgirl
For Swift, the Showgirl era has already begun provocatively with lush visuals, emotional storytelling, and bold reinvention. To have Perry endorse it so publicly enriches the narrative.
Fans and observers will see it not just as validation, but as proof of how much the two women have grown. Whether this moment will inspire further public collaboration, support, or artistic exchange remains to be seen.
But for now, Perry’s move stands as a compelling signal: where once there was tension, now there is mutual respect-and pop icons backing one another in a new era.
