The Chicago Cubs are going all out in a decisive Game 5 of the National League Division Series against the Milwaukee Brewers. The team is not only looking to complete an impressive comeback after trailing 2-0 in the series, but has put its fate in the hands of a pitcher whose story is remarkable in itself: left-hander Drew Pomeranz.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Pomeranz will be the starter who could lead the Cubs to the National League Championship Series and fulfill the prophecy of their manager Craig Counsell.

The designation is a culmination of a career marked by adversity. Drew Pomeranz had not pitched in the major leagues since August 2021, when a serious flexor tendon injury in his elbow forced him to undergo surgery and miss the entire 2022 and 2023 seasons.
“Drew Pomeranz’s Cinderella comeback story continues: The 36-year-old left-handed reliever, who had not pitched in the majors since 2021 before this year, will be the Chicago Cubs’ starter tonight in Game 5 against the Milwaukee Brewers“, was the information from Nightengale, who via X generated impact with the great news.
After a return to the minor leagues, the Cubs acquired Pomeranz in a trade in April this year. In his first full season back at the elite level, the pitcher not only proved he was recovered, but was exceptional, finishing the regular season with an impressive 2.17 ERA and a historic streak of 26 consecutive scoreless appearances in July.

A Cubs victory at the Brewers’ home would not only mean completing the comeback feat and a crucial step towards the World Series, but would also mark their first appearance in the NLCS since 2017, something that has their fans excited and at the same time worried, who despite everything will continue to believe that anything is possible.
