Plzeň v aktuální sezoně ztratila hodně bodů v závěru, i na Bohemians nevypadala i přes početní výhodu tolik sebevědomě. Je to jedna z hlavních věcí, na které musíte zapracovat?
Jasně jsem klukům řekl, že nechci koukat, co bylo. Začíná nová kapitola. Vůbec jsme si nepřipomínali, že by Plzeň ztrácela body v posledních minutách. V Ďolíčku jsme s aktivitou bez míče nijak extra neustoupili, ale musíme se zlepšit s ním na kopačkách. To byl důvod, proč jsme neměli poslední část duelu po kontrolou.
Na premiéru v novém týmu máte za sebou jistě složitý zápas.
Velmi. Na Bohemians to nikdy není jednoduché, domácí mají výborné mužstvo. První půlhodinu jsme ovládli, viděl jsem chuť i velkou kvalitu. Ta chyběla jen v zakončení, měli jsme dát víc než jeden gól. Domácí pak reagovali, změnili rozestavení, a my zkoušeli klukům dávat informace, jak se chovat hlavně v napadání. Chápali dobře. Také jsme je připravovali spíše na čtyřku vzadu, ale Bohemians začali v pěti. V Plzni je však zkušené mužstvo, které si s tím poradí.

Ani červená pro Pražany vám nepomohla tak, jak se možná čekalo.
Ano, měli jsme mít utkání více pod kontrolou. Byli jsme netrpěliví, ztráceli jsem míče, neměli jsme kvalitu. Chci po klucích jiné věci, než na jaké jsou zvyklí. Bylo ale strašně málo času vše natrénovat a navnímat. Jsem rád za tři body a čisté konto, klukům chci veřejně poděkovat.
Co přesně jiného chcete?
Zaprvé musím ujistit, že v Plzni je mnoho pozitivních věcí. Není to kritika. Všichni ale asi vnímáte, jakou mám filozofii. Chci, abychom byli bez míče nepříjemní, aby soupeř neměl prostor a čas. Požaduji, abychom neodpočívali a šli do toho naplno. Když balon máme, mám rád kontrolu nad tempem utkání. Celkově chci být více na míči, nehrát ho rovnou po první přihrávce nahoru. Naopak bych se nerad zbavoval toho, co je v Plzni skvělé a naučené. Třeba útočníci jsou výborné individuality. Musí to být v ofenzívě variabilní.

A co vy osobně? Byl jste před debutem na lavičce Viktorie nervózní?
Stoprocentně. Úplně jiné prostředí, které je ale maximálně ambiciózní a udělá vám komfort pro práci. Na druhou stranu vím, a nejsem naivní, že se čeká progres a výsledky. Na to jsem připravený. Nervózní jsem svým způsobem před každým duelem. Mám obrovský respekt ke kabině. Při vší úctě ke Karviné jsou zde zkušenější hráči, kteří mají hodně za sebou.
Respekt jste vyjádřil i ke svému předchůdci Miroslavu Koubkovi. Sbíral jste od něj nějaké informace?
Ne, nemluvil jsem s ním.
Byly pro vás poslední týdny hektické, možná nejisté?
Byl jsem rozhodnutý, že do Plzně chci. Nešlo o nic složitého. Jsem rád, že vše dopadlo. Beru to jako závazek a krok dopředu. Těším se na spolupráci s týmem i klubem a věřím, že to bude plodné a pozitivní spojení. Jakmile dorazí nový trenér, je to impuls. Když se premiéra podaří výsledkově, má to ještě větší cenu.
Předpokládám, že ani s vaším příchodem se cíle Viktorie nemění.
Plzeň je tým, který chce a potřebuje hrát poháry. Chceme být na pozicích, které nám Evropu zaručí.
