The Dallas Cowboys are making notable roster moves ahead of their crucial Week 12 rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles, signaling adjustments on both offense and defense.
The team announced the signing of running back Malik Davis from the practice squad while releasing cornerback Kaiir Elam, moves first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

While Davis has primarily been a depth option, his promotion to the active roster for Week 12 gives him an opportunity to contribute on game day. With the Cowboys aiming to remain competitive in the NFC East, having a reliable backup in the backfield will be essential if injuries strike or the coaching staff opts to rotate players.
Kaiir Elam’s release, on the other hand, comes as a bit of a surprise. The 2022 first-round pick started seven of the team’s first ten games but had not taken a defensive snap since Week 9. In Week 11 against the Las Vegas Raiders, he appeared solely on special teams, indicating that he had fallen out of the defensive rotation.
Elam, now 24 and on the final year of his rookie contract, will hit waivers, seeking a fresh start with a new team. With 19 starts over his four-year career, he could be an intriguing option for teams looking to bolster their secondary.
Cowboys’ secondary faces depth challenges
Elam’s departure comes shortly after rookie Shavon Revel Jr. returned from injured reserve. The third-round pick had been sidelined for two months and played 19 snaps off the bench in Week 11.
While his return adds some depth, the Cowboys’ cornerback situation remains precarious. Trevon Diggs is still on injured reserve, and both DaRon Bland and Caelon Carson have dealt with injuries throughout the season.
Currently, the Cowboys’ reserve corners include Revel, Trikweze Bridges, and C.J. Goodwin, with undrafted rookie Reddy Steward expected to fill the slot. The lack of depth in the secondary raises concerns, particularly against a high-powered Eagles offense in Week 12.
