Schick po zmíněném zákroku viditelně kulhal a bylo patrné, že jej zranění značně omezuje. Leverkusen přitom po prvním poločase vedl 1:0 a držel duel pod kontrolou. Po nuceném střídání českého reprezentanta však ofenziva Bayeru ztratila energii.
Klíčový moment přišel už ve 21. minutě. Thiaw stáhl Schicka na hranici pokutového území. Sudí nejprve nařídil penaltu, ale po zásahu VAR rozhodnutí změnil. Obránce Newcastlu nakonec vyvázl pouze se žlutou kartou.
„Nemyslím si, že to byla penalta,“ připustil po utkání záložník Bayeru Robert Andrich. Tím ale výčet pozitiv na adresu rozhodčího skončil. Podle hráčů domácího týmu šlo o jasné zmaření brankové příležitosti.
„Pokud tohle není penalta, pak musí přijít červená karta. Takové fatální rozhodnutí jsem dlouho neviděl,“ zlobil se kapitán Leverkusenu.
Neodpískaná penalta ani neudělená červená však nakonec nebyly největším problémem. Tím se ukázalo právě zranění Schicka. „Když se podíváte na Patrikovu achillovku, je jasné, že měl být Thiaw vyloučen,“ doplnil Andrich.
Podle klubových informací má český útočník tržnou ránu na kotníku, kvůli které nebyl schopen pokračovat ve hře.
Zatím není jasné, jak dlouhá pauza Schicka čeká. Je však téměř jisté, že víkendové derby s Kolínem nad Rýnem nestihne.
