Více než jednou za zápas se Slafkovský trefil naposled letos v dubnu. Momentálně na branku čeká osm utkání, když od půlky listopadu hraje v útoku hlavně s nováčky Oliverem Kapanenem a Ivanem Děmidovem.
„Čas na ledě mu ale příliš neklesl, navíc cítíme, že jsme v tomto složení formací silnější. V poslední době Slaf podává solidní výkony. A nám jeho přesun dodal větší hloubku,“ potvrdil kouč Martin St. Louis.
Montrealští fandové však od draftové jedničky a nejlepšího hráče pekingské olympiády 2022 čekali mnohem větší ofenzivní hody. V sezoně 2023-24 se Slafkovský dostal na 50 bodů, v minulém ročníku na 51. Že se jeho přínos pro tým nedá natlačit jen do kolonek gólů a asistencí, je ovšem jasné.
„Slaf nám u mantinelu tvrdou hrou do těla připraví prostor i čas na zakončení,“ tvrdil Caufield. Sám slovenský chalan z Košic chce být konzistentnější, což znamená také pravidelnější bodový přísun. Aktuálně je na bilanci 9+11 po 34 startech, při takovém tempu by se znovu pohyboval někde kolem hranice 50 bodů. Jenže Slafkovský chce víc, protože ví, že na to má.
„Teď hraje častěji na puku v útočném pásmu, do hry ale pořád dává energii a fyzické prvky. Na naše výkony má větší vliv než v první formaci,“ myslí si St. Louis.
Slafkovský má být v této sezoně také klíčovým mužem slovenského výběru na olympiádě v Turíně. Nominován byl spolu s obránci Erikem Černákem (Tampa Bay), Martinem Fehérvárym (Washington), Šimonem Nemcem (New Jersey) a útočníky Martinem Pospíšilem (Calgary) a Tomášem Tatarem (Zug) už v první šestce. Slovensko má v základní skupině za soupeře Finy, Švédy a domácí Itálii.
Právě na Slafkovského bude při ZOH největší tlak z celého týmu, což ostatně zažil už při loňském mistrovství světa v Česku. Kouč národního týmu Vladimír Országh tak vyrazí během ledna do zámoří a v Montrealu se chce s útočníkem Canadiens pobavit o jeho spoluhráčích v reprezentační lajně, aby byla co nejefektivnější.
„Možná teď Juraj nemá tolik bodů jako v prvním útoku, kde hrál s opravdu kreativními borci a chodil na první přesilovku, ale otevírá se mu více příležitostí,“ řekl pro Šport.sk Országh. „Už to nebude jen o Caufieldovi a Suzukim, ale bude muset přijít s něčím navíc. Měl by se z něj stát mnohem kreativnější hráč, který s pukem něco vymyslí.“
To si ostatně přejí i v Montrealu.
