Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf is right now the head of massive scrutiny following an incident that took place during the second quarter of Sunday’s narrow 29-24 victory over the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.
The game saw a physical altercation between Metcalf and a fan who was in the stands. Metcalf went to the fan, grabbed him by his shirt collar to pull him closer and then he shoved him back. The fan, who threw his hands up once Metcalf made physical contact with him, appeared to have a yellow jersey in his hands. The receiver then did a swift disappearance before the media could seek answers.

Despite DK Metcalf refusing to talk to the journalists once the game finished, the fan did talk to the press. The Detroit Free Press spoke to him about the situation and explained what happened. Identified as Ryan Kennedy, the fan shared that he called Metcalf by his first name, generating the incident.
I called him that, and then he grabbed me and ripped my shirt. I’m a little shocked. Like everyone’s talking to me. I’m a little rattled, but I just want the Lions to win, baby.”
The confrontation occurred during a commercial break as Metcalf stood near the Steelers’ bench, area where Kennedy was seated.
Everyone but Metcalf
Per ESPN‘s Kimberley Martin, Metcalf departed the visitors’ locker room before reporters were even permitted to enter. This early exit effectively ran out the clock on any immediate accountability or clarification regarding what specifically sparked the physical response.
However, his head coach Mike Tomlin while addressing the media after the game was honest, remaining uncertain:
I heard about it, but I hadn’t seen it and I hadn’t had an opportunity to talk to DK, and so I have no comment
As no flag was thrown on the field, game officials could not eject Metcalf at the moment. However, the NFL is expected to review the footage on Monday, with a significant fine or suspension likely looming for the star wideout
