Neckarův čtyřiapadesátiletý otec František Neckář je také bývalým gólmanem a odchovancem Dukly Jihlava. Někdejší mládežnický reprezentant po působení ve Valenciennes, Lyonu, Mylhúzách, Dijonu a Belfortu získal v roce 1997 francouzské občanství a v letech 2015 až 2017 byl trenérem brankářů ve francouzské reprezentaci.

Kouč Francie Yorick Treille, bývalý útočník Sparty, Vítkovic a Chomutova, doplnil kádr o 19 jmen poté, co v polovině června vybral první šestici nominovaných. V ní nechyběli útočník Jordann Perret z Hradce Králové a obránce Yohann Auvitu, který v první polovině prosince skončil ve Vítkovicích a zamířil do Lince do mezinárodní rakouské ligy.

Spolu s nimi se do první vlny nominovaných hráčů vešli zadáci Jules Boscq z Hämeenlinny, Hugo Gallet z KalPy Kuopio a forvardi Pierre-Édouard Bellemare z Ajoie a jediný současný francouzský zástupce v NHL Alexandre Texier z Montrealu.

Vedle Perreta a Auvitua mají zkušenosti z české extraligy ještě další dva hráči. Osmatřicetiletý útočník Sacha Treille, mladší bratr hlavního kouče, hrál v letech 2010 až 2014 za Kladno a Spartu a v letech 2017 až 2019 za Pardubice. Forvard Justin Addamo strávil minulou sezonu v Třinci.

Nejvíce zkušeností z NHL má čtyřicetiletý Bellemare, který za Philadelphii, Vegas, Colorado, Tampu Bay a Seattle odehrál 700 zápasů v základní části a k dalším 85 utkáním nastoupil v play off. O čtyři roky mladší Stéphane Da Costa sehrál 57 duelů za Ottawu.

Šestadvacetiletý Texier, který bude oficiálně v nominaci jako zástupce z NHL potvrzen až v lednu, v této sezoně odehrál osm utkání za St. Louis a připsal si jednu asistenci. Po přesunu do Montrealu nasbíral v 15 duelech šest bodů za tři trefy a stejný počet přihrávek. Bývalý hráč Columbusu má v NHL celkem na kontě 255 zápasů v základní části a dalších 21 v play off.

Francouzi se pod pěti kruhy představí poprvé od roku 2002, kdy v Salt Lake City hráli kvalifikaci a skončili na posledním 14. místě. Letos sestoupili z elitní kategorie mistrovství světa, když na turnaji v Herningu a Stockholmu obsadili poslední 16. místo. O návrat budou usilovat v květnu na turnaji skupiny A divize I v polském Sosnovci.

Do olympijských her vstoupí Francouzi ve čtvrtek 12. února proti Švýcarsku a o tři dny později uzavřou vystoupení ve skupině A zápasem s Kanadou.
