‘The tables have turned’ – Norris explains Singapore ‘nightmare’

Lando Norris says "the tables have turned" on McLaren after he only qualified fifth for the Singapore Grand Prix and faces losing ground to championship leader Oscar Piastri in the title race.McLaren were expected to be the team to beat in Singapore but Mercedes' George Russell took pole position from Max Verstappen with Piastri in third but over three tenths off the pace. Both drivers were unhappy with understeer and Norris in particular faces a huge challenge to fight for the win, given the difficulties of overtaking, so will rely on some fortune when the lights go out at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, live on Sky Sports F1 at 1pm (build-up from 11.30am)."Just missing my driving. I just didn't put it all together. You're talking small margins and clearly as a team the car's not in the right […]

Verstappen blames Norris for pole miss | Lando: Red Bull always complain

Max Verstappen accused Lando Norris of causing him to miss out on a chance of pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix before warning his rival that the incident "will be remembered".With Norris and his McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri surprisingly out of contention for pole position at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Verstappen was attempting to knock Mercedes' George Russell off top spot in the closing stages of the session when he came up behind the Brit in the final sector. Verstappen felt that Norris, who was on his way back to the pits having already completed his final flying lap, could have made more effort to leave a clear path for the Red Bull, with the Dutchman believing turbulent air from the McLaren caused him to make an error at the final chicane.Immediately after Verstappen's lap, his race engineer […]

Tennessee Stud steps up for Prix Chaudenay honours

Tennessee Stud narrowly denied stablemate Emit to provide Joseph O'Brien with a one-two in the Qatar Prix Chaudenay at ParisLongchampSeven runners went to post for the Group Two curtain-raiser on Arc weekend, with Tennessee Stud a hot favourite to break his duck for the season after finishing fourth in the Derby at Epsom and fourth in the Irish equivalent on home soil. Stepping up to just shy of two miles, the Wootton Bassett colt sat second as Native Irish quickly opened up a big lead under Tom Marquand before faltering from the home turn. That left Tennessee Stud in front early in the straight in the hands of Dylan Browne McMonagle, but he found plenty once joined by Emit to see him off by a neck, with the O'Brien pair well clear of the chasing pack."It's really good to have a […]

Fallen Angel makes it three on the spin in the Sun Chariot

Fallen Angel registered her third successive Group One victory with an ultimately very straightforward success in the BetMGM Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.Karl Burke's four-year-old took a few races to return to her best this season, but since August she has proved without doubt that she is the best filly over a mile in training. With top-level wins at two and three already banked, the main aim this year was to bag another and she did that for connections in France in the Prix Rothschild, after which came the Matron Stakes.James Doyle initially kept her away from the main group, leading the smaller section down the middle of the track, but when it became clear it was between Fallen Angel and Blue Bolt, they drifted over to the rail, where the 11-4 chance went on to pull two and a […]

Caballo De Mar gives George Scott his first Group One

Caballo De Mar provided George Scott with the biggest success of his career with a gutsy success in the Qatar Prix du Cadran at ParisLongchamp. The winner has been a great advert for Scott this season, as while he has been prolific in winning eight of his last 11 races, his first victory came off a lowly mark of 64 last September. He was second in the Chester Cup to East India Dock, second at Royal Ascot in the Copper Horse Stakes and won the German St Leger last time out. While Scott had won local Group Ones in Bahrain, this was his first top-level success in Europe. The win was also notable for owners Victorious Forever, a new venture between brothers Shaikh Nasser and Shaikh Khalid who had previously raced horses under their own steam.Scott said: "It's an amazing feeling and […]

Russell storms to Singapore pole as Verstappen beats McLarens too

George Russell delivered a virtuoso performance under the lights to claim a stunning pole for Mercedes for the Singapore Grand Prix as second-placed Max Verstappen also outqualified the title-leading McLaren drivers.Claiming just Mercedes' second pole of the season and first since June, Russell delivered two laps in the Q3 shootout that were good enough for top spot - with his first even including a whack against the wall at the penultimate corner. Russell's final time of 1:29.158 proved to be enough to see off Red Bull's Verstappen, who can take solace from the fact he outqualified both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris as McLaren failed to match their rivals' speed in third and fifth places respectively. But Verstappen was left frustrated by Norris, who he accused of compromising his final attempt at pole when the McLaren was running slower ahead through […]

Spurs break their curse with win at Leeds thanks to two deflected strikes

Tottenham ended their international break curse with a 2-1 win at Leeds to go within a point of Premier League leaders Liverpool thanks to deflected strikes from Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus.Spurs had lost their last seven matches immediately before each mid-season pause since a 1-0 win at Luton on October 7, 2023 nearly two years ago to the day, but luck was on their side at Leeds, whose unbeaten run at home in the league ends after more than a year. Both of Spurs' goals went in against the run of play after taking a deflection off Leeds defender Pascal Struijk. The impressive Noah Okafor tapped in a deserved first-half equaliser for the hosts after Tel's opener but Kudus sealed the win with his first goal for Spurs.
